UMKC

This is a college Spanish class with the opportunity to obtain college credit in addition to your Staley high school credits through UMKC, AP or the Seal of Biliteracy. There is no right or wrong path for your student. Evaluate your options and pick what is right for your family. 

UMKC:Students can earn college credit through UMKC by enrolling properly EACH SEMESTER and paying UMKC tuition.The tuition is 1/3 the cost of UMKC’s normal tuition. Scholarships are available on UMKC’s website.www.umkc.edu/hscp
The current cost is $98.27 per a credit hour with a total of $294.81 per a 3-credit class (each semester), paid to UMKC. 
Spanish III is the UMKC equivalent of Spanish1101st semester (3 credits) and Spanish 1202ndsemester (3 credits), for a total of 6 creditsfor the year. 
Spanish IV is equivalent of Spanish 2111stsemester (3 credits) and 2212nd semester (3 credits). 
Spanish Vi s280 (3)/290 (3)Many students almost have a minor upon graduating Staley!

For UMKC credit:
1.    You need to have a 3.0 GPA or a 21 on your ACT.
2.    You must fill out the ONLINEapplication and pay EACH SEMESTER. 

* HINTS:
Be sure to use the BIRTH NAME of STUDENT to fill out application and to enter a correct email.
The ONLINEapplication needs to be completed by September 9th, at 3pm.
Missing the deadline will result in a tremendous amount of work, and you may not be allowed to enroll. 

3.    Once you complete the Online application and it is approved by your teacher and the High School College Program, you will receive an email with more information about how to make a payment or request to start a payment plan. 
4.    You must maintain a grade of C or above to earn credit. Regardless, you pay for the class.

 AP:Spanish Vhighly self-motivated students may take the AP exam if preferred over college credit. Extensive work outside of class is required to learn and practice exam format. 
Seal of Biliteracy:Students who achieve proficient on the APPLL exam after level IV will be rewarded the Seal Of Biliteracy and will walk with the SOBL medal at graduation in addition to college credit accepted at select universities. *See explanation on brochure.
