Quest for Seal Of Biliteracy
Preparation – Spring 2020
When: Wednesday, March 11th (A day)
Report directly 1st block to the FLEX.
Where: the FLEX
Spanish V 2A not taking the exam: You will report to MME. Downey's room 2nd block.
· If you have other obligations, such as Early College or NCAAPS, that prevent you from taking the exam at the designated time, please inform Profe. You will most likely just take it at the opposite time.
Before the Exam:
3. Put earbuds in your back pack RIGHT NOW, maybe even a back-up pair.
4. Erase/Remove any notes off your computer. Close out all of your tabs. Clear your browsing history. Fully charge your computer and restart it.
The Day of the Exam:
1. Put your phone and smart watch in your back pack. Do not have anything out next to you including paper, writing utensils, food, or drink.
2. If you have not ever taken the exam before, we suggest starting with Reading, then Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
3. There is no time limit, except that you only have one minute and thirty seconds to answer each speaking question. Also, using higher-level structures and vocabulary is more important than writing a novel. Two to three paragraphs should be the most.
4. For the Speaking section, the repeat button goes away after the first use. For Listening, we believe it goes away after 4 uses.
5. For the Speaking part of the exam, tables will be set up along the perimeter of the room. Wait until a spot is open at one of those tables, quietly take your computer and complete the Speaking section.
6. Don’t forget to “ask questions” during the Speaking, maybe during the Writing as well.
7. You can lie. Please don’t be bound by the truth. Your goal is to show how well you can communicate.
8. You may need to redirect the topic a bit. Don’t know much about an Olympic Sport? Talk about a sport you DO like or that you know how to talk about.
9. We will take a break about half-way through. If you need to use the restroom or have completed the necessary sections and would like to leave, please wait until that time.
10. If you leave the AAPPL site to go to another page, you will be logged out.
*For levels IV and V:
Please see the handout for study tips if you wish to study. It truly is a measure of your proficiency, and impossible to really STUDY and memorize. You can, however, prepare by reminding yourself of content learned in the past with key vocabulary review. Review vocab lists from levels 1 and 2! We have been debating human rights, and some of the questions are talking about your daily routine. (II)
Level IV: For the experiencia española de MARZO, you will all write the Sociocultural Competency Essay (in English). Please see Rubric.
IV and V: This handout must be completed.
A Note on Proficiency and Performance: While these topics reflect the content areas for the 2019 AAPPL, please remember to work across all general content domains to encourage the development of communicative abilities across the broad contexts experienced outside of the classroom. This will be key to taking a proficiency-oriented approach.
